Laura Banks, DVM, MPH

“I want to cut through the myths and misinformation that sometime cloud how we think about disasters, and show the reality of disaster prevention, management and recovery.”

I was born in Albuquerque and I am a former UNM student. I am now the Director of the UNM Center for Disaster Medicine and an Assistant Professor at the UNM Medical School. My educational background includes biology, veterinary medicine, and public health. I enjoy introducing new students to UNM and showing how they can become a part of an amazing place of learning, research, and service.

Sonia Gipson Rankin

Prof. Sonia Gipson Rankin has studied computer science, law, and her work and research is centered on the impact of legal decisions and the law on technology and life in the digital age. She is vice-president of the New Mexico Black Lawyers Association and chair of UNM’s Web Advisory Committee. Whenever there is a break, she reads Vertigo comics and attends as many old school hip hop concerts as she can in Albuquerque.
