First-Year Learning Communities Budget Approval Process
University College requests that all First-Year Learning Community (FLC) faculty submit a joint budget for each academic semester. This budget must include all expected FLC expenses. University College will provide the following funds to all FLC linked courses:
- Base Funding: University College will provide each FLC linked course up to $750 to spend towards experiential learning (this can be used for trips, SUB reservations, guest speakers' honoraria, books, classroom materials, etc.). Base funding request must be submitted at least two weeks before anticipated expenditure.
- Additional Fund Request: Instructors who would like to request additional resources must submit a justification for large or unusual expenses at the bottom of the form. This request must be approved by the Dean. Budget approvals above $750 are dependent on funds available. Additional fund requests must be submitted by August 17, 2015.
Please submit all funding requests using this format to email@example.com for UNM accounting approval. Please note, each event should be submitted on a separate form. If you will be requesting funds over $1,000, this request must be submitted no later than August 17, 2015.

Notes about Budget Approval Process
- All budgets must comply with state restrictions (i.e., these monies cannot be used for food without special approval).
- Funding for FLC courses are to be used towards directly benefiting the 22-25 students in that learning community. Although extra items might be generated within those funds, FLC funding is to be used first and foremost related to serving the students in the FLC course. The purpose of FLCs and Learning Communities (LCs) is to develop a community of students and the funds we have been allocated from the university are to be used towards achieving that goal. There are reasonable exceptions and the Academic Community Program Facilitator Facilitator should be contacted to find out about those exceptions. But generally, students and community members not enrolled in FLCs or LCs should not benefit from the resources provided for that FLC or LC course.
- If you would like students to create relationships outside fo the FLC or LC classroom with non-FLC or non-LC students, there are other mechanisms available. Please contact the Academic Community Program Coordinator for examples.
